The TRUFFL

The Local is an Airbnb-Hotel Hybrid with a curated collection of hotels that each take on the character of the neighborhoods in which they are located. The brand’s mission can best be summed up by Mark Twain when he said, “Travel is fatal to prejudice.” Because when we are curious, open-minded, and respectful of local cultures, we can connect meaningfully with other people, enrich our lives, and not only travel the world but truly belong everywhere we visit.

Process 

We researched a host of boutique hotels, hybrid long term stay-hotel concepts, and Airbnb listings, and interviewed customers about their travel experiences. Our findings uncovered that for many consumers there was a gap in the market for truly authentic local accommodations typically offered by Airbnb with the safety, security, and hospitality of charming boutique hotels. In addition to our brand findings, we determined areas in which The Local, through unique partnerships, technology and content, could offer a transformative and superior experience both inside the hotel and as guests explore each city.

Brand Strategy

The Local’s brand strategy is best captured by the word “inspired.” We developed a brand story that captured the magic of being curious and embracing art, culture, travel and cuisine in order to get out of one’s comfort zone and enjoy experiences that make us feel truly alive.

Brand Identity

The Local’s brand identity blends the charm and sophistication of a classic boutique hotel with dynamic elements updated to take on the unique character of each location. The hotel group’s unique logo and icon systems update to reflect the neighborhood of each system.

Verbal Identity

The Local’s brand voice captured the witty, smart, cheerful and sophisticated persona of a cultured, in-the-know world traveler inviting guests to explore and discover the unique charm of their destination. Our Tagline, “Don’t just travel. Belong” perfectly encapsulates the brand promise of providing guests a passport to a local experience in each of The Local’s properties.

Merchandise & Collateral

We developed an extensive array of brand assets to bring The Local to life across different touchpoints and showcase the dynamism of a brand that updates to reflect the character of every location. These assets included an app to provide insider access to local restaurants and shops, tailored print city guides, fashionable merch and uniforms, signage and advertisements.
